Delightful Review

I've been a Delight.com fan for a while so I'm especially pleased to have my jewelry reviewed by Lynda. It's amazing to be able to find enough products to go through to end up with enough interesting and noteworthy reviews to post continuously. She chose a favorite ring of mine. I love looking at it. That's right, I'm content with just looking. See review here.

I NEED This!

It's not like I don't have new materials to work with, but I'm constantly looking at stones. I'm tallying up my '04 gemstone/findings spending, and I can get a not-bottom-of-the-line car so far (not done adding up yet). Yikes! I need to join GA. Somebody start one and I'll join.

All that aside, look at what I'm coveting now... This delicious strand of rare rose quartz faceted oval gem. Beautiful translucency and brilliance. To lust for luster and cut. Only 14 beads, but a small fortune. I can see it as a ring on my finger right now! With gold filled wire of course. Somebody hold me back...

The battle goes on. I'll let you know who wins, head or heart.

How This Mess Started...Part I

I first started making jewelry by accident. After going to the bead shops and shows with a jewelry making friend many times I happened to pick up a book of Japanese beading. Seeing an alternative way of using beads than what was around got me interested. It was only then I wanted to make something with beads. That was a little more then a year and a half ago. Looking back, everything happened at warp speed. I'd have never thought I would have a website and be doing this full (yes, about 16 hours a day minus the interruptions in between) time. I didn't make things for myself and friends. I made things to sell. My satisfaction came from real people wanting to buy my jewelry.

The strange thing was I didn't really have the need to wear my jewelry. Strange because I've always been a major collector of bracelets, rings and earrings. I never wore things that didn't stand out or stand out as unique. For some reason I just wanted to design and create but not own and wear. All who knew me before would tell you that is strange indeed. Saga continues...

This image has nothing to do with this entry but I need pictures when I read. It's a great looking ring on the finger but goes unnoticed among all the other rings on the page.

Summer Collection Is Here

Tell me how they look. I just know what I love. I love the blue of turquoise with the dark bronze of pearl or black horn or the ebony wood. I love turquoise and something dark with gold. There's something ancient about it. I love ancient. I am all about modern and ancient.

In with the new and out with the old. Time to say bye-bye to many items of the previous collection. Get what you want from the sale page before it's removed from the site to keep it clean. Yes, I know I'm a little extreme in keeping the site 'clean'. I think it's to counter my cluttered mind. I also love to hit the delete button. Much important information has been lost to the finger that's faster then the mind.

Go look now.

Cocktail Rings

The photo shoot was a relatively short one at 9 hours. As you can see, the photos look amazing! I can't wait to process and catalog them and compose the new pages to go on the site. Actually, I don't love this part of the job, but the desire to see the finished pages is the only thing that keeps me working on it.

There are always many more new items than intended, so quite a few don't get on the site. I might have to clear out most of the items online now to squeeze in the new collection. Hard to decide what goes when I like them all...

Ok, Just a Little Peek

These are some of the rings that will be in the summer collection. They look very very good on the finger-single, multi rings per hand or stacked. I am much in love with the Simple Cut of the turquoise and other stones. Very stylish and modern. I know I said no peeking, but forget what I said.

Since I'm no good with techno-gadgetry I don't know how to mess with camera/light to come up with a decent picture so this will be the worst photo you'll see on my blog.

Due to the nature of some of these stones they will have to be one-of-a-kind and go into the Limited Edition category with size already specified. I was telling Sharon that I hope they don't sell in person so they can stay online. Sharon said "That's healthy for your business. You should call it 'Look, admire, but leave it jewelry.'" She's right that I'm not always eager to sell. Well, that's artistic people for you.

Summer of Horn, CZ and more...

Gearing up for the photo shoot of summer collection. There are lots of horn beads in this collection. Golden horn cuff with sterling clasp, black horn necklace with interesting weaved pendant, golden horn with peridot and gold wire... There's also the new "stone" on the market -cubic zirconia beads. CZ's first appearance in the 70's was as a diamond imitation, but this time around it's as its own gloriously colored beads. The thing about CZ is that it's very sparkly and has a nice weight to it, that it's a wonderful material to use in all kinds of designs. I must admit, when I first saw it on the market I was a little resistant to it's "non-gem" quality. But then I thought, what is the big deal about gemstones? A designer should be able to use any materials that inspire. It's how one uses the materials, not what it is or how much it costs. CZ is not a cheap material. If anything, it's far more costly then jasper, agate, new jade, and all kinds of imitation quartz (cherry, pineapple, lilac).

Almost forgot, rings! Rings started out as my favorite and most important category, but as my collections evolved and materials changed they were left behind. I was a little unsure of the logistics of making rings fit the way I want them to. But, what's close to the heart stays close to the heart. Rings are back in a big way for me! I've overcome the problems I thought I had. In this new collection I have lots of cocktail rings with stones used in interesting ways. Wait till you see them. I won't give too many details here to spoil the surprise. No pictures, no peeking!
